World history: The exhibition “Man in the war” to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of the Second World War in Saint-Petersburg

The exhibition “Man in the war” timed to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of the Second World War is opened on August 25, 2015 in the Museum of Political History of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).

The museum continues the tradition of displaying fund collections to significant historical dates. September 1, 1939 the Second World War started - the most inhumane and destructive in human history. It lasted six years, covering the territory of 40 countries in Eurasia and Africa. In May 1945, in Berlin it was signed the final act of unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany, and the last opponent of the anti-Hitler coalition remained Japan. It ended the World War II on Sept. 2, 1945 signing of the unconditional surrender of Japan. On the eve of this anniversary is opened a photo exhibition "Man in the war", which continues the study of anthropological aspects of the war. 

The exhibition presents previously not exhibited works by war correspondents, started in 1941-1945. Photos of famous artists – B. P. Kudoyarov, G. I. Lugovoi, Y. N. Khalip, N. I. Khandogin, I. A. Fetisov - captured daily life of a man in the war. With the works of professionals are resonated photos by amateur photographers - war veterans, transferred to the museum photographs from their personal archives.

The exposition introduces the actions of partisan detachments in the enemy's rear, front-line soldiers of the Red Army's everyday life, the battles progress and preparation for it, everyday life and employment of women, children and old men in the rear; presents photographs of the opening of the Second Front, rare footage of joint actions of allies, images that convey the horrors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
