23 February 2016

The exhibition "The greatest and the most beautiful feat…" Defender of the Fatherland in Russian and Soviet poster" takes place from February 20 to July 31, 2016 at the Museum of Heroes of the Soviet Union and Russia (Moscow).

The exhibition was opened on the eve of the Defender of the Fatherland Day and invites you to get acquainted with the history of the military in domestic genre of poster art from 1850's to 1980's.

Military poster has its origin from the print style of the XIX century. Many of the stories that are popular in splints will become traditional for military poster: the exploits of the heroes of the fighting, a satire on the opponent conscription. In Soviet Russia, new themes arise in the extraordinary breadth of styles used in military posters, such as the protection of the young state and revolutionary ideas, strengthening the power of the Red Army. The flowering of poster art goes to the period of the Great Patriotic War. Everyone is familiar with the work of Kukryniksy and famous "TASS Windows".

The exhibition presents more than 60 military posters of prominent painters and graphic artists from different years, including I. A. Vladimirov, B. V. Zworykin, B. E. Efimov, V. B. Koretsky, Kukryniksy, A. A. Kokorekin from the collection of the Central museum of the Armed Forces of Russia and the State Moscow Defense Museum.
