History and culture: The exhibition “Portraits of the heirs to the throne of European monarchies of the XVIII-XIX centuries in the prints” in Peterhof

The exhibition "Portraits of the heirs to the throne of European monarchies of the XVIII - XIX centuries in the prints" was opened at the Museum of Benoit family ("Peterhof" Museum-Reserve). The exhibition presents 17 works from the collection of Y. S. Warsawsky, St. Petersburg collector of Russian and Western European portrait engravings, prints stored in the fund of the State Museum "Peterhof". At the heart of the exhibition - portraits of the heirs of European monarchies and lithographed along the picturesque originals and photographic portraits of the heirs to the throne of Russia of the XIX century, made by the best masters-engravers.

The heir to the throne has always been the "second" person in the hierarchy of the first persons of the state according to the degree of attention that he has paid the public of the country and neighboring. To him, as a future emperor, they were literally "chained" the eyes of people of all social classes. His image personified hopes of loyalists for better future. That is why to official printed portraits of heirs to the throne, intended for distribution, was paid a special attention. They were supposed to be especially attractive to the public, and the image of the heir had to be an incarnation of the most good and noble human qualities.
