Libraries and Society: The project "BiblioRodina" in support of libraries is launched in Russia

Crowd funding platform Planeta.ru, the Russian Library Association (RLA), the Russian School Library Association (RSHBA) with the support of the Russian State Duma and the "Mail of Russia" launched a project in support of the Russian libraries - "BiblioRodina".

"BiblioRodina" is a service based on the principles of the national funding, which will allow anyone to become a patron of the project, and subscriptions to scientific and popular periodicals as a gift to Russian libraries.

At present, the project involves about 5000 libraries and 13 periodicals: "Science and Life", "Young technician", "Knowledge - force", "Aerospace", "Machinery", "Inventor", "The left-hander" and others. Libraries can independently send an application for participation in the project by completing the form on the home page https://biblio.planeta.ru, specifying the exact address and contact details. Logs can also be connected to the project on its own initiative. 

The main objectives of "BiblioRodina" project: the establishment of a permanent, convenient and transparent mechanism to ensure that regional and municipal libraries subscriptions to scientific and popular publications, the revival of libraries as cultural and scientific centers across the country, promotion of scientific knowledge, support for popular science publications in a lack of external financing, the development of a new approach to philanthropy in Russia.

"BiblioRodina" project is supported by the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. "Today Russia, more than ever, needs highly qualified engineers, innovators and inventors who are capable of generating new ideas. Therefore, the popularization of technical media is very important, because they help both adults and children to develop their abilities, modern thought, to make scientific discoveries. The distinguishing feature of "BiblioRodina" project is philanthropic subscription. Through this targeted assistance regional libraries will receive an additional source of funding, and scientific publications will increase their circulation.
