History and culture: Exhibition of postcards and photographs of the Soviet period, "Happy New Year!" is opened in the Vladimir region

On the eve of New Year holidays the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve presents the exhibition "Happy New Year!". Reproductions of postcards, stamps, envelopes, photos, Soviet-era paintings (1950-1980) from the collections of the State Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve are presented at two art venues: Gorokhovets Historical and Architectural Museum (December 22) and the Centre for the development of sports, culture and tourism of the Muromtsevsky rural settlement (December 26).

Only from 1953 in the Soviet Union started a massive printing of greeting cards. They were produced in huge quantities from drawings by the best Russian artists – V. I. Zarubin, K. A. Andrianov, E. N. Gundobin and others.

The postcards depicted Father Frost and Snow maiden. There were revived fairy-tale characters, the same demand were postcards with birds and beasts, winter landscape. In 1960-1970's artists began to depict children, athletes, celebrate the New Year on the track or the skating rink. In the 1980s, hand-drawn post card was replaced by greeting card, which became extremely popular.

New Year stories appeared on postage stamps. These were the New Year trees, the Kremlin clock and obligatory congratulations: "Happy New Year, dear friends!"

New Year's theme became popular in poster art. A favorite story remained the same all the Kremlin chimes with congratulatory messages, but there were also calls not to forget about the current at the time the plans of the party. Especially curious was a poster with Olympic bear, where Happy New Year congratulation was written in five languages.

The New Tear exhibition is added with reproductions of paintings by famous artists.
