Memorable dates of Russia: Exhibition "Ivan Aivazovsky. To the 200th anniversary of the birth" in St. Petersburg

The exhibition "Ivan Aivazovsky. To the 200th anniversary of the birth" is opened on December 22, 2016 in the Benois Wing of the State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg).

Ivan Aivazovsky (1817-1900) - the world-famous Russian marine painter, one of the most successful Russian artists of the XIX century, whose works are the decoration of the museum collections in Russia and abroad, and are of the constant attention and success with the audience. The collection of the Russian Museum keeps 54 paintings of the great marine painter.

In addition to these works the jubilee exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the master, includes paintings from the collection of the Museum-Reserve "Peterhof", the Museum-Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo", the Central Naval Museum, the Sea Cadet Corps. A special section of the exhibition, which presents about 200 works, makes up the memorial and photographs introducing of the iconography by Ivan Aivazovsky.

The basis of the exposition is well-known works, characterized by a high artistic level, and little known to the viewer works by Aivazovsky from private collections, as well as different surroundings, constituting the context of the activities of Ivan Aivazovsky as a painter of the Naval Staff.
