International events: The exhibition ""Dear allies": the USSR and Great Britain during the Second World War" is opened in the framework of the Days of Culture of Scotland in St Petersburg

January 30, 2017 in the framework of the Days of Culture of Scotland in St. Petersburg will be held the opening of book-illustrative exhibition ""Dear allies": the Soviet Union and Great Britain during the Second World War" in the new building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition presents publications of NLR funds devoted to diplomatic relations between the USSR and Great Britain, the memoirs of the participants hostilities, albums, magazine and newspaper articles.

Among the exhibits - "Report of the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs V. M. Molotov to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR…" (1942), "The Battle for Britain: Dowding and the first victory", John Ray (1940), "The Second World War" of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, "Memories of the Soviet ambassador" of the diplomat Ivan Maysky, "Hard mission" of the naval attache at the Soviet Embassy in the UK Rear Admiral Nikolai Kharlamov, the album "Britain at war: Unsung archives" (2001) and others.

The exposition also presents a book of Scottish journalist Margaret Henderson "Dear allies…" (in Russian and English languages), devoted to the history of Scotland and the Leningrad Album - symbols of friendship and the model of public diplomacy in wartime. In 1942, in besieged Leningrad was delivered to the album, handwritten greetings of Scotland to united women of besieged Leningrad. The answer has been sent "Leningrad album" greetings from women of Leningrad to women of Scotland. 

There will also be held a presentation of the Scottish delegation, the opening of the exhibition of art works in St. Petersburg schools, results of the contest.

The exhibition is organized by the National Library of Russia in cooperation with the St. Petersburg Association for International Co-operation and will run till April 5.
