Information technology and culture: The Mariinsky Theatre Library to digitize composers’ autographs

ELAR Corporation has delivered to the library of the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre (St. Petersburg) a planetary scanner ELAR PlanScan A2B. On the equipment it will be digitized a musical part of the collection, which consists mainly of rare books.

"The Mariinsky Theatre Library holds one of the world's largest collections of musical autographs of Russian and foreign composers of XVIII-XXI centuries", - said the director of the library, Doctor of Arts, Professor Maria Shcherbakova. According to her, the digitization of autographs of composers is a tool that allows expanding access to the researchers and keeping the original documents providing users digital copies.

It is to create digital copies of musical autographs, which would be in line with expectations, the library and its readers, the library of the Mariinsky Theatre purchased scanner ELAR PlanScan A2B. This is professional equipment, proven on many projects in libraries and museums, when needed to digitize unique documents of the rare funds.
