The Day of Remembrance and Sorrow – the day of beginning of the Great Patriotic War
June 22 is the Remembrance Day for all those who died during the Great Patriotic War. The staff of the Presidential Library’s regional center operating at Lermontov Penza Regional Library suggested to pupils of school № 13 that they should commemorate those who had fought with the enemy on the front, worked on the home front without sleep or rest, reached Berlin; those, who are not with us today.
At the beginning of the event children watched a video “Beginning of the war announced”. A presentation «The day, when the war began. Newsreel of June 22 1941» featuring photographs and archival documents followed.
Pupils discovered the Presidential Library’s electronic collection dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, learned about the way children used to support soldiers during wartime and watched the newsreel of May 9 1945.
Penza region is in spotlight of the «Penza Region: Pages of History» collection available on the website of the Presidential Library. The collection includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials which reflect the demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of history of Penza region between the end of the 18th century and the first third of the 20th century. The current statute of Penza region is available, too.
