The Presidential Library is developing new projects with Germany

Today, July 10, 2018, delegation members from the Leibniz Institute of Eastern and Southeastern Europe (Regensburg, FRG) first visited the Presidential Library. It was at this site, less than a month ago, the fourth center of remote access to the resources of the Presidential Library in Germany was opened.

The director of the Leibniz Institute for Eastern and Southeast European Studies Ulf Brunnbauer, the head of the department for work with libraries and electronic research projects of this institution, Tillman Tegeler and the Deputy Consul General of Germany in St. Petersburg, Ute Katch-Egli was given a tour around the Presidential Library, within the framework of which the guests got familiar with the history and architectural features of the building, they learned about the main activities of the library, its information and technologic resources.

During the working visit, delegation members expressed their interest in continuing cooperation, implementing new joint projects, including the scientific and educational area. Also on this day, the guests received the nominal library cards of the Presidential Library, which allow from every corner of the world where there is access to the resources of the Presidential Library, to use its richest collections which today number about 630,000 items.

In the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library, delegation members got familiar with unique historical publications. Particular attention was paid to the Russian manuscript of the XVII century - "Cosmography, that is, the world description of the lands. rus. Cosmographia seu geographia universalis linguâ Russicâ conscripta. lat", donated to the Presidential Library collections from the Bavarian State Library (Munich, Germany). This historical document is publicly available on the portal of the Presidential Library.

It is also worth noting that the Presidential Library portal features e-collection "Russia-Germany: from the history of relationships", which includes studies, essays, collections of official documents that reflect individual pages of the history of Germany since the 9th century, as well as the history of diplomatic, military, economic and cultural ties between the two countries from the middle of the XVII century to the early XX century.

The guests also viewed the exhibits of thematic exhibitions, which are now located in the Presidential Library. Among them - "More than a game: to the FIFA World Cup in Russia" and ""A Way not experienced before by the Russians ... ": to the 215th anniversary of the beginning of the first Russian round-the-world expedition".

A unique copy of the inauguration sample of the Constitution, presented by the President of Russia to the library on the day of its opening - on May 27, 2009, stored in the Constitution hall, aroused great interest among the delegation members. In the same room the documentary newsreel is presented, which contains the greeting of the State Duma by Emperor Nicholas II in the St. George Hall of the Winter Palace.

It stands to mention that the relationship between Russia and Germany is growing rapidly. Users in Berlin, Munich, Dresden and Regensburg have got access not only to the Presidential Library collections, but also have the opportunity to participate in the cultural, educational and scientific educational activities of the institution remotely via video-conferencing mode. Among the last large-scale international projects is the exhibition of the first color photographs of the Russian Empire by Sergei Prokudin-Gorsky from the Presidential Library's collections. The exposition was widely represented in Berlin, Frankfurt, Dresden and Leipzig. The specialists of the Presidential Library also invited delegation members to participate in the IX Research and Practical Conference "Cultural Heritage: Integration of Resources in the Digital Environment", which will be held within the framework of the Annual Integration Forum in early October 2018.
