Chinese filmmakers have made a film about the Presidential Library

People of Russia and China will see a documentary about the Presidential Library. In Russia the film shot by Chongqing filmmakers will be shown as part of the meeting of the Presidential Library cinema club, later it will be freely available on the portal of the institution. What is more, the film will be shown on the China Central Television on the national day of the People’s Republic of China to be marked on October 1, 2018. The announcement was made today on September 17, during the visit of the Chongqing People’s Government delegation to the building in Senate Square.

Specialists of the Presidential Library regularly meet with their Chinese colleagues, Valentin Sidorin, Acting Director General of the institution noted. He added that the long-term cooperation, exchange of experience and resources, arrangements for joint cultural, educational and scientific events help people of China and Russia get to know each other better.

Wang Jun, the head of the Chinese delegation, the Chairman of Chongqing People’s Political Consultative Conference, also stressed the importance of cooperation: “The development of cultural cooperation is one of the top priorities for our city, and joint projects carried out with the Presidential Library enhance these efforts”.

Participants of the round table discussion focused on the issues of cooperation and future joint projects. They, in particular, include the exhibition timed to 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, that will be based on materials of the Presidential Library and Chongqing libraries.

The guests also joined the tour around the Presidential Library, and had a chance to discover the history and architecture of the building, learn about the library’s key directions of activities, its information and technological resources.

The Presidential Library has been developing relations with the People’s Republic of China since 2010. It was on September 27 as part of the official visit of the head of Russian state to China that electronic resources of the Presidential Library became available in the country. In March 2012 the Presidential Library signed the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation with its main partner in the People’s Republic of China – the National Library of China. The Russian-Chinese Library Conference, the Russian-Chinese Media Forum, exhibitions “The Style of Beijing” and “From War to Peace... In Commemoration of 70th anniversary of the End of World War II” along with other events were held as part of the cooperation.

The collection “Russia-China: On the History of Relations” on the portal of the Presidential Library provides access to the wide range of digitized documents (books, archival papers, visual materials and maps), which cast light on the history of relations between Russia and its major partner in the Far East – China. They feature “Sketches of the Journey to the End of the World” by Tulichen (1667–1741), the Chinese official, who was the member of the first Chinese Mission to Russia (1712–1715). This book became the first work about Russia in the history of China, the publication of “Sketches…” became a momentous event in the history of cultural exchange and official interstate relations between China and Russia. The book “The Journey to China in 1874–1875 across Siberia, Mongolia, Eastern, Middle and North-Western China: from the Diary of the Expedition Member P. Ya. Pesetsky” presents the country through the eyes of a subject of the Russian Empire. The collection also includes photographs of China in the early 20th century, banknotes issued by the Bank of China during 1917–1918, and other noteworthy materials.
