The Penza Regional Center hosts the Knowledge Day

3 September 2019

Specialists of the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library held Knowledge Day for 5 and 6 graders of the school № 74. An excursion into the history of the development of education in Russia was accompanied by practical tasks.

Young visitors learned about the fascinating world of geography. Having put two puzzles “Penza Province” and “Penza Region”, the children compared the modern borders of their native land with a map of the province of the late 19th century.

At the “literature lessons”, schoolchildren recited krylov’s little-known fables, studied the rules for positioning the hand and holding the pen from the Guide to Calligraphy, for youth in public schools of the Russian Empire, as well as receiving samples of cursive writing.

The classes ended with a visit to the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library, where pupils examined digitized textbooks, starting with the primer by Karion Istomin (1694) and ending with Soviet textbooks of the 1930s.

The Presidential Library’s portal features Penza Region. Pages of History collection. It includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials covering demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the region from the end of the 18th to the first third of the 20th century as well as the current Charter of the region.
