Evening concert held at the Russian Center of Science and Culture of Prague

January 29, 2020 the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Prague  hosted a musical evening dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege.

The event was arranged by the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Czech Republic together with the Russian House with the support of the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic.

The defenders of Leningrad and the inhabitants of the besieged city showed unparalleled courage, incredible stamina and fortitude. Each of the 900 days of the siege went down in history as an example of the greatness of the human spirit, devotion and love for one’s city and country. During this time, according to various sources, from 400,000 to 1,500,000 people died from starvation, cold and bombing. Huge damage was caused to the unique cultural monuments and historical buildings of the city.

About 100 compatriots and local citizens took part in the evening, among which were veterans of the Battle of Stalingrad and members of the Club of Youth and Children's Diplomacy.

After the concert program, the audience turned to veterans and members of the Leningrad siege society with words of gratitude for their feat and wished them good health.

The center of remote access to information resources of the Presidential Library in Prague, opened since 2016, provides guests with the materials of electronic collections: Memory of the Great Victory,  The Defence and Siege of Leningrad. Collections of materials include official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, publications of a propaganda nature, collections of articles, biographies, testimonies of participants in military battles and rear workers, their personal documents and much more.
