The Presidential Library's video lecture to represent the incredible fate of Aleksandr Kuprin

On September 25, 2020, at 12:00 (Moscow time), the Presidential Library will broadcast an online video lecture "The Union of Life and Art: Phenomenon of Aleksandr Kuprin: Marking the 150th Anniversary of the Writer" from the series "Knowledge of Russia". The event was organized jointly with the Penza Regional Center of the Presidential Library.

The video lecture is available for everyone. The meeting will be held remotely and broadcasted in the Live broadcasts section of the Presidential Library’s portal according to the live events program. It will be also provided on the institution's YouTube channel, as well as on the page of the VKontakte social network.

The video lecture audience will learn about the incredible fate of Aleksander Kuprin, whose life was full of bright events, many of which are reflected in his oeuvre. Tatyana Kaymanova, an excursionist, researcher at the Association of State Literary and Memorial Museums of Penza Region, associate professor of the Marketing, Commerce and Service Sector at Penza State University, will participate via video conferencing. She will lecture about the writer's hobbies, literary code and circle of friends. The video lecture audience will learn why Kuprin is considered an incomparable author of essays about the life of workers, one of the first sports journalists and authors of a military detective and science fiction. Tatyana Kaymanova will also tell about the origin of writer's nicknames - Horse Square, Mr Little Heart, Mr Duel. Besides the fascinating story, there will be a presentation of rare photographs.

Tatyana Kaymanova is the author of scientific commentaries and articles to the complete collection of works by Aleksandr Kuprin in 10 volumes. She wrote a preface and scientific commentary to the collection "The Motley Book. Uncollected and Forgotten", which included more than 150 new texts by Aleksandr Kuprin's works, not included in the collected works.

Tatyana Kaymanova's articles about Kuprin are published by the magazines "Penza Local History", "Sura", "World of the Museum" and collections of All-Russian scientific conferences.

One of the major activities of the Presidential Library is the digital preservation of the most important documents on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood. The entire institution's electronic fund totals about a million storage units for today, including materials dedicated to the life and work of Aleksandr Kuprin. For example, the electronic reading room provides an opportunity to explore the complete collection of Kuprin's works and read the writer's correspondence with the Russian revolutionary Nikolai Tchaikovsky.
