26 September 2020

On September 26, 2020, the Presidential Library hosted tours for St. Petersburg residents and city guests, which was held as part of a social campaign in honor of World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27. The campaign "The unique charm of hospitable St. Petersburg" has been initiated by the Committee for Tourism Development of St. Petersburg together with the city enterprises of the tourism industry and the hospitality industry.

Anyone visited the historic building of the Synod at the Senate Square, 3 which today houses the largest multifunctional information, scientific, educational and cultural and educational center, which includes an electronic reading and exhibition halls, a conference hall, a multimedia and television complexes.

Visitors learned about the rich history of the building, designed by the architect Carl Rossi, how the nationwide electronic resource is being formed, where books and periodicals, archival documents, newsreels, photographs, scientific and educational films, dissertation abstracts and other materials spotlighting the centuries-old history of Russian statehood, theory and practice of law are presented in digital form, as well as Russian as the state language of the Russian Federation. The volume of the electronic collections of the Presidential Library today is about a million depository items.

Visitors were able to examine the multifunctional premises of the institution, see where events are held, including those of the highest state level.

As part of the demonstration of the technical capabilities of the multimedia complex of the Presidential Library, a film screening of a fragment of the documentary film by Sergei Debizhev and Andrei Efimov "Hymn to the Great City", filmed using the latest advances in image technology, took place. The film has no voiceover, plot and staged shots - only St. Petersburg from different angles: from a bird's eye view, from the surface of the water or from the theater stage, but thanks to this film, one was able to take a fresh look at the city, see its scale and grandeur.

The Presidential Library pays special attention to newsreels and documentaries as the most reliable chronicle of the current time. One of the most important directions of the institution is the creation of its own documentaries dedicated to the history of Russia.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the electronic collection "Marking the Year of Russian Cinema", which includes official documents, research, various visual materials (posters, postcards, etc.), revealing various aspects of the development of Russian cinema since the beginning of the 20th century as well as representing individual films and actors of Russian and Soviet cinema.
