Exhibition "Navigators and explorers of the Russian Empire" opened in Penza

November 11, 2020 the Lermontov Penza Regional Library hosted the opening of the exhibition "Navigators and explorers of the Russian Empire", timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by M. Lazarev and F. Bellingshausen.

The guests of the library learned about the unique sources illustrating such famous Russian travelers and researchers as S. I. Dezhnev, V. P. Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, I. F Krusenstern, S. I. Chelyuskin, about their travels to the Arctic and Antarctica, Siberia and China, Tien Shan and other unexplored lands.

The display of the book exposition was accompanied by the presentation of electronic content from the Presidential Library’s collections, which contains digitized rare antique editions. For example, the famous guidebook “Russia. Full geographical description of our Fatherland. Handbook and Road Book for Russian People”, published under the auspices of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society and edited by the father and son of the Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky.

The Presidential Library’s portal features the electronic collection "Penza Region: Pages of History". In particular, it includes archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials that spotlight demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of the region at the end of the 18th - first third of the 20th century.
