The Volgograd Regional Centre of the Presidential Library held a videoconference devoted to Alexander Nevsky

On April 29, 2021, the Maxim Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Presidential Library held the Interregional video conference "Alexander Nevsky: Public Figure through a Historical Document" devoted to the 800th anniversary of the Novgorod Prince, Grand Prince of Kiev and Vladimir, a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Volgograd Regional Centre of the Presidential Library's Information Resources, operating at the Maxim Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library, received guests from the Fleet Admiral N. D. Sergeyev Volgograd Technical School of Water Transport activists of the Volunteer Club "Brothers in Arms" of the regional branch of the All-Russian Volunteer Social Movement "For Patriotic and Moral Education of Youth", students of the Volgograd Socio-Pedagogical University. Remote sites brought together participants from nine regions of Russia: Volgograd, St. Petersburg, Simferopol, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk, Pskov, Novosibirsk, Tambov and Khanty-Mansiysk.

The main topic of the videoconference was the actualization of the interest of the youth in national history, moral values, patriotism and public spirit based on historical examples of serving the Fatherland.

Alexei Vorobyov, the Director (for External Relations) of the Presidential Library and Svetlana Safronova, the Director of the Maxim Gorky Volgograd Regional Universal Scientific Library, greeted participants.

Aleksey Lunochkin, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian and General History, Archeology of Volgograd State University, devoted his speech to the governmental deeds of Alexander Nevsky in the estimates of historians.

Irina Flotskaya, the curator of the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve, introduced the participants to the veneration traditions of St. Alexander Nevsky by the royal family.

The Senior Teacher of the Tambov Theological Seminary, Head of the Department of Culture of the Tambov Eparchy, priest Alexander Bykanov spoke about the Orthodox faith as the basis for preserving Russian identity in the Grand Prince's activity.

This theme was developed by bibliographer of the Presidential Library's User Service Department, Serafima Veselova. She devoted her speech to Alexander Nevsky's image in the official church rhetoric in the reign of Alexander I.

Nikolai Antipov, Deputy Director for Research of the Integrated State Archives of Chelyabinsk Region, spoke about the restoration of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Chelyabinsk.

Alexander Nevsky is one of the most significant figures in Russian history. At the age of active development of digital technology, it is urgent to correctly use relevant materials from the collections of the Presidential Library. This thesis was proved by Olga Potapova, the Head of the Presidential Library's Regional Centre of Information Resources of the V. D. Fyodorov Kuzbass State Scientific Library.

The Presidential Library's portal provides the materials of the electronic collection Alexander Nevsky (1221-1263). It marks the 800th anniversary of the Novgorod Prince, Grand Prince of Kiev and Vladimir, a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church. The collection includes studies, essays, biographies, hagiographies and speeches, archival and graphic materials.
