Exhibition project to mark the 800th anniversary of Alexander Nevsky presented in Rome

The Russian House in Rome has opened an art and documentary multimedia exhibition "Alexander Nevsky", dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the great commander. A number of Russian museums were involved in its creation.

Military equipment and household items from the era of Alexander Nevsky were presented with the help of multimedia equipment. The public's interest was aroused by unique photographs telling about the filming in 1938 by Sergei Eisenstein of the first film dedicated to the commander. Visitors to the exhibition were able to view fragments of copies of the unique reliefs of the St. George's Cathedral, which was visited by Alexander Nevsky, as well as to learn about documentary and animation films in Russian.

“Alexander Nevsky is an excellent commander, a wise leader and an experienced diplomat. The political course he chose did not allow Russia to disappear from the world arena and for many centuries determined the vector of development of our country, - noted at the opening the director of the Russian House in Rome Dariya Pushkova, - in Italy there is also a trace of Alexander Nevsky, in the city of Varese in the north of Lombardy there is a church of the holy blessed prince Alexander Nevsky. This is one of the oldest churches of the Russian Orthodox Church in Italy, founded in 1900".

The major collection Alexander Nevsky (1221-1263) available on the Presidential Library's portal features rare studies by scientists and theologians, essays and visual materials dedicated to the Grand Prince

Only part of the materials from the Presidential Library collection is publicly available. It is also provided in the information resources of the national electronic storage in the remote access centers opened in 30 countries of the world.
