Donbass through the eyes of a military photojournalist. Photographs by Vladimir Anosov available on the Presidential Library’s portal

19 January 2023

Photographs of the military correspondent of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Vladimir Anosov are posted on the Presidential Library’s portal and are now available worldwide.

The photographs capture the events in Mariupol, Donetsk, Volnovakha, Lisichansk, Luhansk and other Russian cities in 2022. These are shots that the author of the exhibition took while on the front line. Risking his life, a military photojournalist - a man "with a watering can" and a notebook - shows what is happening on the front line and in the rear: the Russian military and residents of dilapidated cities returning to civilian life, exploding shells and the work of sappers, the distribution of humanitarian aid and inscriptions People live here on the gates of houses, despair, tears of loss and faith in victory...

The Presidential Library’s collections contain a lot of materials on military topics. The main task of the institution is to preserve the history of Russia based on documents and archival materials, without speculation and distortion of historical facts. The photographs of the war correspondent Vladimir Anosov are also a document - an eyewitness account who captured what he saw through the camera lens.

Vladimir Anosov is former career military man, reserve major. He graduated from a military school, served in aviation, participated in two Chechen campaigns. He came to journalism after his dismissal from the ranks of the Armed Forces, worked in the Krasnodar media. As soon as the special military operation began, Rossiyskaya Gazeta photojournalist Vladimir Anosov wrote a statement asking him to be sent to Donbass.

The photographs of the military correspondent of Rossiyskaya Gazeta Vladimir Anosov, which entered the Presidential Library’s collections, were presented at the Donbass-2022 front-line photo exhibition, opened at the Presidential Library last autumn. The most sparing shots in the 12+ category were selected for the exposition.

Now these photographs are available for viewing to all users of the Presidential Library.

Active cooperation of the Presidential Library with Rossiyskaya Gazeta has been developing since 2012, when the North-Western Branch of the newspaper began providing information support for events, exhibitions and other events in the Presidential Library. The institution’s collections contain digitized copies of the popular science and history magazine Rodina, a subsidiary of Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
