The Presidential Library forms the national electronic information space

The Presidential Library works on creating the sole national information environment. This is reflected in the annual report of institution for 2016, a full version of which can be found on library website www.prlib.ru.

To date, more than 300 centers of access to the information resources of the Presidential Library operate in all 85 constituent entities of the Russian Federation. 29 of these access centers are opened on the grounds of centers of Russian science and culture or other public institutions in 24 foreign countries.

“It is great that in 2016 the array of electronic sources reached 500,000 units,” - head of the Department of the Presidential Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Kolpakov emphasized. He highlighted: “In 2017, the Presidential Library needs to complete the implementation of information retrieval systems for the selection, description and archiving of internet resources, to continue technological modernization, to maintain a constant dialogue with users and visitors, and to interact with the mass media.”

“One of the main priorities of our institution is the development of a nationwide document repository, the formation and accommodation of an electronic fund that helps to build the sole national environment of sources on the history, theory and practice of Russian statehood, and the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation,” - the Director General of the Presidential Library Alexander Vershinin said.

The Presidential Library electronic stock is constantly growing: today it includes more than 54.4 millions of digital copies of various types of materials, among which the archival documents, along with the latest multimedia resources are especially worth mentioning. Beside the permanent scanning centers in the library premises on Senate Square and in the Russian State Historical Archive, mobile scanning complexes now operate on the sites of other institutions: the Military History Museum of Artillery, the Engineer and Signal Corps, the State Russian Museum, the St. Petersburg State University, and since 2016 - in the Russian Geographical Society. The work on selection, digitization, description, placement and accommodation of documents obtained from various federal, departmental and regional sources, as well as automated activities on completion the fund with multimedia documents, is going on.

The Presidential Library continues to develop as the largest active multimedia multifunctional (cultural, outreach and awareness raising, educational, research, analytical and public) center. The number of unique visitors of library website www.prlib.ru amounted to almost 2 million users for 2016. Owing to the new video conferencing system, allowing to join dozens points of access, the working meetings with the participation of a regional center in Moscow and a branch in Tyumen are being held in the Presidential Library on the regular basis, systematic methodical webinars and far-reaching Internet projects are being organized.

In 2016, the Presidential Library assured running of a number of events with the participation of the country's top leadership, including President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, as well as the meetings of intergovernmental commissions, international meetings within the framework of the St. Petersburg Educational, Legal and Cultural forums. The Presidential Library first hosted the International Financial Congress and was included in the official cultural program of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The institution also continued organizing and conducting its own scientific and practical conferences, which became the notable events in professional environment.

The active presence of the library in social life of a society, a work in the context of rapid changes in the information environment, a participation in high-level events are well blended with the institution’s own scientific and practical conferences, public video lecturing, multimedia lessons, cinema clubs screenings, press tours, webinars and many other projects.
