Innovative technologies in teaching Russian as a foreign language presented in the capital of the Czech Republic

As part of the series of events “By Learning Language We Discover Culture”, the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Prague hosted refresher courses “Innovative Technologies in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language” intended for Russian language teachers. The training was organized and provided by heads and teachers of the Leo Tolstoy Tula State Pedagogical University with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Czech Republic. More than thirty Russian language teachers from Prague and other cities of the Czech Republic took part in the training courses.

Professor Vladimir Panin, rector of the Leo Tolstoy Tula State Pedagogical University, told attendees about the university, different areas of international cooperation of the university, and Russian language summer courses for foreigners.

Lectures delivered by teachers spotlighted special features of the modern education system, methods of developing communicative competence of students, who learn Russian as a foreign language. As part of the workshops, participants of the event learnt about teaching Russian language vocabulary and grammar through the use of games.

Specialists highlighted an important role of literary works and other materials in the original in the language learning process. Such publications are available in the Presidential Library’s holdings as part of the collections dedicated to famous writers and poets of Russia: Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837), Mikhail Lermontov (1814-1841), Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821-1881), Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910), Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930) and others.

The Presidential Library’s portal provides access to some of the materials of the library’s electronic collections. Information resources of the largest digital repository are available at remote access centers located in different countries of the world. One of them was opened at the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Prague in 2017.

Pupils, who learn the Russian language can also take part in the Presidential Library’s Russia in the Electronic World Olympiad. A new subject “Russian as a Foreign Language” will be introduced into the Olympiad’s programme this year. Further information about the project is available on the Presidential Library’s portal.
