Information Technologies and Culture: The University of Toronto Libraries launched an updated version of the Jackson Bibliography of Romantic Poetry

14 June 2020

The University of Toronto Libraries has just launched an updated and redesigned version of the Jackson Bibliography of Romantic Poetry with a greatly improved search function.

The bibliography is based on the first-hand examination of copies of existing editions of all English poetry published for the first time between 1770 and 1835, amounting to approximately 23,000 volumes.

The founder of the bibliography, Emeritus Professor of the University of Toronto Robin Jackson, tried to study and provide a description of each book on the website.

The first version of the database was released for the first time more than ten years ago and changed the understanding of romantic poetry thanks to the publication of well-studied, canonical poetry as well as thousands of works of less-popular poets of the same period. In particular, the bibliography features hundreds of female writers, greatly expanding their understanding of romantic poetry. The updated version holds new content, including extensive biographical information about the authors, and original studies by an English language professor at the University of Toronto, honorary doctorate Heather Jackson and Sharon Ragaz, Pr. Ph.
