Information Technologies and History: Getty Research Institute launched an interactive archive of Los Angeles panoramas from 1965 to 2007
The Getty Research Institute launched 12 Sunsets. Exploring Ed Ruscha’s Archive an interactive website, that provides access to 65 thousand photographs of Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, taken by Ed Ruscha in 1965-2007.
The Getty Research Institute acquired Ruscha's archive in 2012. Since then, the Institute managed to digitize most of the collection. The Getty Research Institute team recently launched an interactive website that allows anyone to explore Ruscha’s Sunset Boulevard archive to make these previously unknown images available. (The archive is also released by the Getty Research Collections Viewer website, which is an access and discovery resource for scientists.)
12 Sunsets. Exploring Ed Ruscha’s Archive features a street map which you can move across using your mouse or left and right arrow keys. As you move, you’ll see Ruscha’s corresponding photos of the street above and below the map. It’s a virtual tour of Sunset Boulevard as seen through Ruscha’s watchful lens.
