"Marking 78th anniversary of Kurgan Region" video lecture held at the Presidential Library

February 5, 2021 at 11:00 Moscow time, the Presidential Library, as part of the Knowledge of Russia project, hosted a video lecture “Marking 78th anniversary of Kurgan Region”, timed to coincide with the region's birthday, which is celebrated on February 6.

The event was free. The meeting was held remotely and was broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the program of live events, on the institution's YouTube channel and VKontakte social network.

The video lecture was attended by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Kurgan State University Vladimir Menshchikov, who talked about the peoples living in Kurgan Region, about the origin of the names of settlements and the sights, including the Dalmatovsky Dormition Monastery.

"Archeology, the history of local population groups and the beginning of the development of the territory of Kurgan Region" was the topic of the speech of the Candidate of Historical Sciences, associate professor, director of the Humanitarian Institute of Kurgan State University Denis Maslyuzhenko. Participants learned about those who previously lived on the territory of Kurgan Region, why local Tatars were called Ichkinsky and about the uniqueness of the region and much more.

Also, as part of the video lecture, Stanislav Bessonov, Chairman of the Regional Public Organization "Young Parliamentarians of Kurgan Region", presented films about the traditions, customs and holidays of the main ethnic groups living in the region.

Nikita Popov, historian, ethnographer, teacher of School No. 151 of St. Petersburg, joined the discussion of the reports.

The Presidential Library’s materials illustrate the history of the region. They are presented in the special digital collection Kurgan Region: Pages of History. It includes studies, statistical essays, archival documents, cartographic and photographic materials of the 19th - early 21st centuries, that spotlight the administrative, socio-economic, geographical position of Kurgan and Shadrin districts, which territory today is based on modern Kurgan Region.
