The Presidential Library’s virtual tour spotlights the discoveries of the South and North Poles

On July 16, 1819, the First Russian Antarctic Expedition began (1819-1821). Marking the anniversary of this event, the Presidential Library provides a remote exposition devoted to geographical discoveries of Polar Regions: the Arctic and the Antarctic.

A virtual tour of the exhibition "Expanding the horizons of the world within the globe": Marking the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by the expedition of F. Bellingshausen and M. Lazarev" spotlights the travels of Russian navigators and the history of the Russian presence in the circumpolar regions of our planet, about heroic discoveries and exploration polar regions, scientific activities and extractive industries in the most remote areas of the Earth. The exposition, in particular, features rare book editions, geographical maps and little-known photographs.

Virtual projects are an actively developing area of activity of the Presidential Library, thanks to which the electronic repository, along with paper, photo, audio and video materials, is entered with exhibits from exhibitions, items from museum collections.
