The exhibition about the first post-war elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR opened in Kurgan
February 10, 2021 the Kurgan Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Yugov Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted a presentation of a mobile exhibition dedicated to the first post-war elections to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. These elections took place exactly 75 years ago - on February 10, 1946 - and became a milestone in the development of a peaceful life, the beginning of a whole stage of a new life in the country.
The exhibition stand has been prepared by the election commission of Kurgan Region. Copies of historical materials about the first post-war elections were provided by the state archives of the region and territorial election commissions, which sent documents and photographs from the regions of the Trans-Urals. The materials tell about the preparatory period and the voting day. The biographical data of Terenty Semyonovich Maltsev, a candidate for deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the famous trans-Ural field breeder, honorary citizen of Russia and Kurgan Region, are presented. The photographs depict the young Terenty Maltsev, whose all-Union glory is still ahead, and Marshals Konstantin Rokossovsky and Georgy Zhukov.
The exposition will run in the hall of the Kurgan Regional Center of the Presidential Library until mid-March. The exhibition materials are free. An electronic version of the exposition about the 1946 elections is available on the website of the election commission of Kurgan Region.
The presentation of the mobile exhibition includes the collection The Electoral System in Russia: the Past and the Present featuring more than 200 documentary units and giving a holistic view of the history of the formation of electoral law in our state, as well as highlighting its current state. The collection contains both historical sources on the topic of electoral law (official and archival documents) and research works.
