The Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation: a new stage of cooperation

Cooperation agreement between the institution and the Regional Public Organization St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation was signed at the Presidential Library on April 27, 2021. The document was signed by acting Director General of the Presidential Library Pavel Tereshchenko and Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation Vladimir Bykov.

The agreement provides for long-term partnership, including support for new directions in education and outreach activities; on the formation of a single information and cultural space in the field of domestic and world culture and science, history, theory and practice of Russian statehood; organizing joint events; implementation of creative and research projects in the field of culture and sports aimed at popularizing chess and educating the younger generation.

Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation Vladimir Bykov noted that the signing of the cooperation agreement was a logical continuation of the successful relationship between the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation and the Presidential Library, which has been going on for more than one year.

Thus, in May 2018, the Bronze Horseman blitz tournament was held in the building at Senate Square, 3. The massive chess competition, organized by the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation, was attended by 128 people aged 10 to 82 years. In April 2021, a tournament was held in the Presidential Library in memory of Igor Blekhtsin, professor of the St. Petersburg State Economic University, international chess master.

Vladimir Bykov expressed confidence that the interaction between the Presidential Library and the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation would be long-term and fruitful.

In his turn, acting Director General of the Presidential Library Pavel Tereshchenko stressed that the Presidential Library was always open for cooperation and holding joint events, including chess tournaments of any level as well as international ones. Pavel Tereshchenko especially noted the events aimed at the young generation: "We will be very glad to see young, growing up future famous chess players of St. Petersburg and Russia in our institution".

After signing of the agreement, the executive director of the St. Petersburg Chess Sports Federation Vladimir Bykov invited everyone to solve a chess problem invented in 1869 by the famous American chess player Samuel Loyd. Its terms are available in the official group of the Presidential Library on the Vkontakte social network. The winner of this peculiar chess competition will receive a postcard with a view of the Presidential Library and an invitation to an individual tour of the historic building of the Synod.
