History of Saint-Petersburg: Exhibition "Russian Flag over Saint-Petersburg", marking the 30th anniversary of the return to the city of historical name, launched
On June 9, 2021, the Museum of the Political History of Russia launched the exhibition "Russian Flag over Saint-Petersburg". In 2021, Saint-Petersburg marks an important date - 30 years ago, the city returned its historical name. In 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR adopted a resolution recognizing the tricolour as the national flag of Russia. The exhibition marks the anniversary of these two events and reconstructs their chronology. It features materials about political and public organizations and people who contributed to the restoration of former symbols. Most of the exhibits are showcased for the first time.
It is the first exhibition of the Museum of the Political History of Russia, which spotlights the circumstances of the return of the original name to Leningrad and the restoration of the historical flag of Russia.
The participants in the events provided rare photographs and documents from private archives. The exhibition presents their personal belongings and documents. Leaflets, posters, documents, letters, newspaper publications reveal the intensity and drama of the political and ideological confrontation around the renaming of the city on the Neva.
