History and Culture: Exhibition "Architecture of Memory" presented in Moscow

The exhibition "Architecture of Memory" will run until September 12, 2021, at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (Moscow).

The exposition spotlights the development of architectural ideas and the survival of architectural monuments during the Great Patriotic War. It also presents projects for the restoration of cities and post-war memorials.

The exposition includes restoration schemes by Aleksey Shchusev for the Resurrection Cathedral in New Jerusalem and the town of Istra; the rescued tiles from the destroyed temple; projects for the reconstruction and conservation of damaged and destroyed ancient Russian monuments in Veliky Novgorod, including the Cathedral of St. Sophia (XI century) and the Saviour Church on Nereditsa Hill (XII century), as well as projects for the reconstruction of Sevastopol.

Archival documents represent the creation of the sculptural ensemble in Treptow Park in Berlin, the Memorial to the Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad on the Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd, the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, and the Memorial Complex on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow.
