Memorable Dates of Russia: Moscow to hold the "Konstantin Korovin and His Disciples" exhibition marking the 160th birthday of the artist
The exhibition "Konstantin Korovin and His Disciples" will be launched at the New Manege in Moscow on December 22, 2021. This project features works from the Moscow Vellum Gallery and extensive private collections. It marks the anniversary of Konstantin Korovin, a great artist, theatre decorator and writer, whose 160th birthday is celebrated in December 2021.
A retrospective of paintings and theatrical works presents more than 40 items. All of them were created by Konstantin Korovin, one of the founders of impressionism in Russian art, his disciples and artists from his circle.
The followers of Konstantin Korovin became the pride of Russian and Soviet art. They also became teachers who shared their experience and knowledge with the next generations. Among Korovin’s disciples, whose works are at the exhibition: Sergei Gerasimov, an Academician and People's Artist of the USSR, an excellent teacher, who later became Rector of the Vasily Surikov Moscow State Art Institute; Alexey (Alessio) Isupov, who united the art schools of Russia and Italy in his life and oeuvre; Georgy (Georges) Lapshin, a prominent representative of the Paris School, painter and stage director, who led the art studio at the House of Russian Youth in Paris; Fyodor Fedorovsky and Pyotr Williams, VKHUTEMAS teachers, chief artists of the Bolshoi Theatre. A separate section is devoted to the works of the 1930s by Alexander Shevchenko, the avant-garde artist, the participant in the "World of Art" movement, and later the cubo-futurist.
The exhibition presents photographs and a part of the correspondence between Feodor Chaliapin and Anton Chekhov, famous artist's friends. Visitors have an opportunity to listen to audio recordings and watch a short film about Korovin and his influence on Russian art.
The exhibition will run until February 23, 2022.
