Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day to be held at the Presidential Library

10 February 2022

On February 10, 2022 at 10:00 am the Presidential Library will host a webinar and conference «Alexander Pushkin’s Memorial Day», timed to coincide with the 185th anniversary of the death of the great poet.

The event will be broadcast live on the library's portal and on the institution's YouTube channel.

The main goal of the traditional annual webinar conference is to preserve the memory of the life and career of Pushkin, to attract interest in his personality, to promote the heritage of the classic of Russian literature.

In 2022 the webinar and conference program includes a historical and chronological session, a literary and creative session, and a session “Alexander Pushkin in the modern world”.

The speeches of scientists, specialists, Pushkin's descendants, representatives of the International Pushkin Foundation from Belgium will be devoted to a variety of topics: the last days of the poet, his relationship with Nicholas I, Pushkin's stories in popular culture, etc. The participants of the event will also learn, perhaps whether it was possible to save Alexander Sergeevich, how the public reacted to his death. And of course, within the framework of the webinar conference, lines from the immortal works of the great poet will be heard.

The Presidential Library’s collections contain a large number of materials that tell about the life and career of the classic of Russian literature; they are available in the electronic collection Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837). It includes digital copies of books, articles, archival documents, abstracts, dissertations, video films, postcards, drawings and paintings illustrating the poet and people of his circle. A significant place in the collection belongs to articles from pre-revolutionary periodicals, showing the attitude towards Pushkin and his work has changed over time. The collection also contains numerous materials dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Pushkin's death, celebrated in 1937 on an extraordinary scale. The Presidential Library’s portal features the video film ““Foreign words” in the poetry of Pushkin” dedicated to foreign borrowings in the Russian language. The video film is based on evidence of the polemics of the Pushkin era: rare book publications, periodicals, letters, criticism, electronic copies of which are stored in the Presidential Library.
