International literary contest of short prose EthnoPero

In 2023 the EthnoPero International Short Fiction Contest held by the Sverdlovsk Regional Interethnic Library is dedicated to the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The contest organizers are the Ministry of Culture of Sverdlovsk Region and the Institution of Culture of Sverdlovsk Region "Sverdlovsk Regional Interethnic Library".

The objectives of the contest are to strengthen civil unity and harmonize interethnic and interfaith relations, promote the ethnic and cultural diversity of the peoples of Russia, popularize folk art, preserve cultural traditions, historical and cultural monuments, cultural identity of all peoples and ethnic communities of the Russian Federation.

In 2023, the works will be accepted for the EthnoPero contest in two categories:

  • "Main Contest"

The subject of the contest works must be related to the peoples of Russia, their history and original culture, or dedicated to the ethnic and cultural diversity of the Russian Federation. In addition, contest works can be devoted to the topics of positive interethnic interaction and intercultural dialogue.

  • "Ethnic Fantasy"

Contest works made in the genre of ethnic fantasy may generally correspond to the theme of the "Main Contest" nomination, but should be focused on the use of myths, ancient legends and traditions of the peoples of Russia in the canons of the construction of works common to fantasy; on the embodiment through the use of fantastic techniques and tools of the features of the mentality, history, culture of the peoples of our country; on the creation of fantastic universes, where the inner world, the philosophy of being, centuries-old traditions and foundations of the peoples of Russia are manifested in a special way.

The contest accepts works by authors who have reached the age of 18, regardless of citizenship and place of residence. One author can take part in any or both nominations of the contest and forward no more than two contest works in each of the nominations.

The contest participation is free.

Applications for contest participation, together with contest works, must be sent by August 31, 2023 to the contest organizer at etnopero@somb.ru marked “EthnoPero Contest”.

The list of the contest winners will be published on the official website of the Sverdlovsk Regional Interethnic Library on the Internet on November 21, 2023. The ceremony of summing up the results of the contest will take place at the end of the year. The contest winner, who takes the 1st place, will receive a cash reward and a diploma of the 1st degree winner, those who take the 2nd and 3rd places will receive memorable prizes and diplomas of the 2nd and 3rd degrees respectively.
