Films and video lectures about the history of the Great Patriotic War available on the Presidential Library's portal
The Battle of Stalingrad, the Road of Life on the ice of Lake Ladoga and the Tehran Conference of 1943 - this and more will be discussed in films and video lectures in the TV Channel section on the Presidential Library's portal from November 16-30.
November 19, 1942 - the beginning of the counter-offensive of Soviet troops near Stalingrad. The screening of the film cycle “On the Path to the Great Victory” from the collection of documentaries “The Next Goal – Stalingrad” of the historical channel “365 Days of TV” is timed to coincide with this day.
Unique newsreel footage of those years - the offensive of Soviet soldiers, the commander of the Stalingrad Front, Colonel General Eremenko, Zhukov at the table with a map, a flight over the destroyed Stalingrad, the solemn ceremony of presenting the sword of the English King George VI as a gift to the residents of Stalingrad in commemoration of the heroic defense of the city - are shown in the film "Battle of Stalingrad. Defence of Stalingrad".
Another film from the collection of documentaries of the historical channel “Pavlov Yakov Fedotovich, 1917–1981” tells about the hero of the Battle of Stalingrad, the commander of a group of fighters who defended a four-story residential building on Lenin Square in the center of Stalingrad in the fall of 1942. Now this house is known as Pavlov's House.
On November 22, 1941, the Ice Road of Life began operating. This was the only transport route across Lake Ladoga connecting besieged Leningrad with the country.
The feat of Leningrad is described in the video lecture “About War and Victory in the Language of Books” based on the works of Olga Bergholz and the “Siege Book” by Daniil Granin and Ales Adamovich.
Without leaving home, one can visit the virtual exhibition of the Presidential Library “Siege: A Chronicle of Life” which presents unique documents: diaries, letters from the front, posters, books, film and photo chronicles of the siege.
The film “Praying for the Fallen” tells about the temple-monument of the holy martyrs Adrian and Natalia, which is dedicated to those who died and disappeared during the defence of Leningrad from the fascist invaders. The parish of the temple is actively involved in perpetuating the memory of the fallen defenders of Leningrad: the Museum of Military Glory “DOT” was created, and a memorial park was laid out around the temple.
The documentary film “Marshal of Victory Govorov” is dedicated to the Hero of the Soviet Union, who was often called “our Leningrad marshal”. From June 1942 until the end of the war, Mikhail Aleksandrovich Govorov was the commander of the troops of the Leningrad Front, leading the operations to break through and then completely lift the blockade of Leningrad. This legendary man took part in the Civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic Wars, rising from a junior mortar battery officer to Marshal of the Soviet Union. Filming took place in places associated with Govorov's life. The film group visited the homeland of Mikhail Alexandrovich - the village of Butyrki, Kirov Region - and met with people who keep the memory of the marshal in Elabuga, Simferopol, Vyborg, Moscow and other cities.
Users will also have the opportunity to meet Ninel Viktorovna Krasnolutskaya, Zinaida Arkadyevna Fedyushina, Lyudmila Aleksandrovna Fedorova, who survived all the terrible 900 days of the siege in the besieged city. Video recordings of the interviews are shown online.
November 28 marks the 80th anniversary of the start of the Tehran Conference, the first conference of the “Big Three” during the Second World War - the leaders of three countries: Joseph Stalin (USSR), Franklin Roosevelt (USA), Winston Churchill (Great Britain). The display of a number of video lectures from the Presidential Library is timed to coincide with this day: “Lessons of the Second World War in the light of modern geopolitics”, “The USSR and the Nuremberg Trials”, “The Second World War; The USSR and international relations in Europe on the eve and at the beginning of the Second World War.” It will also be possible to familiarize yourself with the distance lesson prepared by specialists of the Presidential Library “The Second World War and the Great Patriotic War in documents and evidence of the era”ю
Especially for students, video lectures are shown on the Presidential Library’s portal, the topics of which reveal and supplement the school curriculum. The subject of the video lecture Knowledge of Russia reflects the main directions in the formation of the Presidential Library's collections: the history of the Russian state and law, the Russian language as the state language of the Russian Federation.
