Exhibition "Friend and contemporary of A. S. Pushkin - Pyotr Pletnyov"

25 June 2024

From June 25 to July 9, 2024, the Presidential Library will host an online exhibition dedicated to the 225th anniversary of A.S. Pushkin's birth. The exhibition celebrates the creative and personal connection between two prominent figures - Pyotr Pletnyov and Alexander Pushkin. It was created by experts from St. Petersburg State University and is based on digitized images of pre-revolutionary books and journals from the collection of the Gorky Scientific Library. The exhibition features a selection of works by Pushkin, as well as the magazine Sovremennik, collections of poetry, and literary and artistic publications on the life of the renowned Russian poet. Additionally, it includes fragments of poems written by P. Pletnyov in honor of A. Pushkin and a poetic tribute from the novel Eugene Onegin addressed to P. Pletnyov.

Pyotr Pletnyov was a Russian literary critic, poet, journalist, professor, and rector of Imperial St. Petersburg University. He was also a close friend of Alexander Pushkin and the first assistant in his literary affairs.

Pletnyov published more than 20 books written by Pushkin and did so completely selflessly. Together with Baron Delvig and later with Pushkin himself, he edited the almanac "Northern Flowers" from the end of 1824 until 1846. In 1838, he became Pushkin's successor as editor of Sovremennik, and Pushkin dedicated chapters IV and V of his novel in verse, Eugene Onegin, to him.

To visit the exhibition make an appointment by phone (812) 334-25-14 or send an e-mail to excursion@prlib.ru.
