From 1979 to 1982, Julian Semenov was a correspondent for the Literary Gazette in Western Europe. There the writer got acquainted with many famous people, including Serge Lifar, a major figure in choreography in France, founder of the Paris University of Choreography and the University of Dance, ballet dancer, choreographer, dance theorist and collector. Serge Lifar collected one of the most interesting Russian libraries in Europe, consisting of old printed books of the 16th-19th centuries. A special place in his library was occupied by Pushkin's, the personal archive of Sergei Diaghilev, which consisted of a collection of theatrical painting and scenery .
