2 February 2017

In 2017, annual results of the Foreign View international photo competition of the Presidential Library will be announced for the seventh time. The award ceremony will take place on February 2, 2017, at 1:30 pm at the library venue in St. Petersburg, as well as on the grounds of the library and outreach centers-partners of the institution. The event has become a traditional occurrence, gathering the professionals and photo enthusiasts, for discussing current issues in the industry on-site or online.

For the first time the adviser to the Chief Executive of the Presidential Affairs of the Russian Federation, the press secretary of the Presidential Affairs Elena Krylova was allotted a member of the jury of the photo competition. She thanked all the participants of the project, emphasizing its importance for the image of the country, promotion of its history, as well as for the strengthening of cultural relations internationally in current fast-paced world.

A record number of works were submitted for the competition: more than 4600 photographs from over 30 countries. Among the participants there are the residents of more than 120 cities and settlements in Russia, 10 cities in Ukraine. All participants have managed to reflect the various aspects of the cultural and social life of each country in the most colorful form and, at the same time, by means of photography to unify the world of cinematic history and art. We have to remind hat the photo contest was held under the “Cinema is Truth” slogan. Everyone is given his own movie, “which allowed the organizers to actualize the theme of the Year of Cinema in Russia. The “KinoDok,” “A street on screen,” “The new Wave” and “A man with a cine camera” nominations granted the participants of all ages a chance to demonstrate their knowledge in this field, their research abilities, to become more attentive to the details of current and past events. At that a genre of street photography turned out to be the most popular (the “Street on screen” nomination), bringing more than 1,500 images together.

Great interest was aroused by geographic nomination, which collected 450 works. This time it was dedicated to Greece and China. It is worth noting that for the first time the participants from Vietnam and Mongolia were presented this year. Also for the first time in cooperation with the Tyumen branch of the Presidential Library and the administration of the Tyumen Oblast of the special nomination entitled “Siberia. I love you” was introduced. To participate in the “National vote” the photography lovers have uploaded more than 300 photos into Instagram. Traditionally, the best works will be collected into a photo album, which will be added to the Presidential Library electronic stock.

The annual award ceremony is reserved for the project participants, but not only. This is a chance to meet well-known photographers, to sightsee the Presidential Library. The International Charity Foundation of Vladimir Spivakov especially to this event is preparing an exceptional cultural program. In the future, the participants will be able to see theirs work in the media, photo albums and exhibitions. The Foreign View international photo competition will continue to expand the geography of the contestants, to attract new sponsors, to invite for a partnership various cultural institutions for joint accomplishments.
