
Specialists of the National Library of Finland visited the Presidential Library
24 November 2011 a delegation of the National Library of Finland visited the Presidential Library. The visit was of introductory kind.
The guests were offered a tour around the Presidential Library: they visited multimedia center, electronic reading room and exhibition halls.
In the context of the visit there was a working meeting between the representatives of the Presidential Library and the Finnish colleagues.
On behalf of the Presidential Library the meeting was attended by E. Zhabko, E. Gruznova, A. Zaytsev, L. Savelieva, M. Bystrova, A. Tomashevich. The Finnish delegation included Savolainen Liisa, Head of Scientific Department of the National Library of Finland; Ivanova Marina, librarian of the National Library of Finland; Kananen Katri, Head of the National Collections of the National Library of Finland; Keskitalo Esa-Pekka, librarian of the National Library of Finland (Information Systems); Kuusela Maijo, librarian of the National Library of Finland; Lukka Irina, librarian of the National Library of Finland; Reijonen Irma, Head of the Slavic Department of the National Library of Finland; Talasniemi Saara, librarian of the National Library of Finland; Virta Sari, librarian of the National Library of Finland.
The specialists exchanged their experience on the development of the content of the digital library, discussed the principles of selection of materials for digitization. E. Zhabko made a presentation revealing the strategies of development of digital collections of the Presidential Library, interaction with Russian and foreign partners, promising projects for collections development. Then the presentations were made by the guests. L. Savolainen informed about digitization of the National Library of Finland’s holdings and problems related to the process; Esa-Pekka Keskitalo presented theoretical developments and practical implementation of ideas in the field of web-archiving.
at the meeting was also discussed a possibility of joint projects to convert into digital format the materials from the holdings of the National Library of Finland which might be of interest to the Russian side as well as the exchange of digital copies.
The National Library of Finland provides access to the national printed heritage and scientific literature in the field of the humanities and social science. It also provides access for users to the resources of the electronic library.
The first meeting of the Presidential Library’s specialists with the colleagues of the National Library of Finland was held in Helsinki, in May of 2011.
