Libraries of the world: National Archives of UK finalist in BETT awards for its “Cabinet Papers 1915-1978” project

26 November 2009

The National Archives of UK is a finalist for the third year in a row for a BETT Award (annual scheme that highlights innovation within information and communication technology in the education sector) for its “Cabinet Papers 1915-1978” project.

Launched in December 2008 and part funded by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee, which supports UK post-16 and higher education and research by providing leadership in the use of Information and Communications Technology), the website offers free access to a vast selection of digitised Cabinet minutes and memoranda using thematic and chronological historical overviews.

The National Archives was winner of a 2008 BETT award for its “Focus on Film” exhibition, and previously nominated for its “World War II” exhibition. This year's nomination falls within the Digital Collections category. Winners for 2010 will be announced on Wednesday, 13 January.

A new cabinet has been digitised and is now available to download from “DocumentsOnline”. As with the existing notebooks, it has been fully transcribed and linked with images of the original document.
