
Society and church: Russian researcher will provide new information about life and miracles of Saint Nicolas
30 March 2011, in the Museum of the Russian Icon, Moscow will be held a presentation of the “Kind Helmsman” book devoted to one of the most honored saints in the Christian world – prelate Nicolas, archbishop Mirkiliysky.
With the blessing of the Most Holy Patriarch Cyril, the presentation of the book will be attended by the Head of administration of the Moscow Patriarchate, metropolitan of Saransk and Mordovia Varsonophy and archbishop of Ryazan and Kasimov Paul.
The book’s authors are famous researches from Russia, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, USA and Germany. The book contains a series of new information on life and miracles of prelate Nicolas, their historicity and archaeological evidences of authenticity of monuments of Byzantine script.
The collected works feature for the first time ancient Latin and Greek monuments for divine service, devoted to the prelate. Researches made by Russian and foreign scholars on iconography of Saint Nicolas and their particularities are unique by their comprehensiveness and are of great interest too. Texts on iconography are supplemented with a large number of color images of miniatures, frescos and icons, the oldest of which dates back to the 7th century.
The edition was printed in one of the best print houses of Italy and includes over 350 color illustrations, a series of which are published for the first time.
The book will be presented by one of its authors, A. V. Bugaevsky, a famous Russian hagiographer, studying the life of Saint Nicolas.
