For 66th anniversary of Great Victory: “This should not happen again” exhibition in Barnaul

28 April 2011

April 28, 2011 at the State Art Museum of Altai Krai (Barnaul), opens an exhibition of Honored Artist of Russia Alexander I. Harshak (1908-1989) "This should not happen again", dedicated to 66-year anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The exhibition presents seven etchings from the series "1941 – 1945”, donated to the museum in 2010 by the son of the master, Honoured Artist of Russia Andrey A. Harshak.

These works are the outcome of many years of work and a profound rethinking of military experience. And, of course, the main source of material have been front-line drawings, which were unique artistic documents produced by an eyewitness of the heroic age.

In addition to graphic works, the exhibition represented a large scope of archival materials (books, albums, brochures, catalogs), acquainting visitors with the works of St. Petersburg artists dynasty whose founder was the famous graphic artist A.I. Harshak (1908-1987) and art critic P.E. Kornilov (1896-1981), first donor to the State Art Museum of Altai Krai.

The exhibition will run from April 28 to May 28, 2011.
