IT and Society: By 2014 900 thousand Nizhny Novgorod residents will get universal e-cards

On July 12, 2011 at the meeting of the regional Government the Minister of Information Technologies, Communications and Mass Media of Nizhny Novgorod Region Sergei Kuchin reminded about the plans of the regional Government concerning introduction of the citizen’s universal electronic card. Thus, from January 1, 2012 cards will be issued to all citizens, who have submitted applications. By 2014 the Ministry intends to offer electronic cards to 900 thousand residents.

By beg. 2012 within implementation of the Public Health Modernization Program reading units for citizens’ universal electronic cards will be installed in all medical institutions of Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The state organization Information Technologies Center, set up in December 2010, will become the official operator to provide card service. Apart from this, Sberbank has agreed to co-operate with the Ministry of Information Technologies. It will be in charge of issue and service of universal electronic cards.
