Museums of Russia: Gherman Titov reconstructed museum to open in Polkovnikovo village
August 6, 2011 opens the refurbished museum of Gherman Titov in his native village Polkovnikovo (Altai Territory). The event was timed to the 50th anniversary of spaceflight of the native of the Altai.
The renovated museum complex now includes two sites: the seven year school, where studied cosmonaut Titov (the old museum building), and a new building which includes exhibition halls, repository and employees’ offices.
The total area of the new museum complex is more than a thousand square meters. For the inauguration of the memorial complex was also prepared a training aircraft L-29 donated to the museum in 1990s by the Barnaul flight school.
In addition, to the Memorial Museum of German Titov was delivered mock spacecraft and space suit of the astronaut. Layout of the spacecraft "Vostok" (scale 1:3) and astronaut spacesuit life-size have been made on a Samara breadboard design company.
According to the museum's director, Galina Paroshina, the Shchetinins Art Gallery granted to the museum 20 photographs by space pilot, commander of the cosmonaut detachment, Hero of Russia Yuri Lonchakov. The photographs provide the image of different countries and continents, and even the famous Altai Mountains and lakes from outer space.
Another 12 photographs have been donated to the museum by a State Duma deputy Andrei Knorr. The photos reveal the post-flight life of Gherman Titov. Trips to the world countries, meeting with the astronauts training at the academy, with friends, etc. These pictures will make part of the "Altay and space" exhibition.
