Archive of Russia: Exhibition of documents “The attraction of Altai culture” in the State Archive of Altai Krai

Exhibition of documents "Attraction of Altai culture" opens on August 30, 2012 at the State Archive of Altai Krai in Barnaul.

The exposition is prepared to the 75th anniversary of the formation of Altai Krai and dedicated to the historical and cultural heritage of Altai. It presents the documents and materials that tell about the features of the Altai culture from ancient times to the present day, its appeal in different times, prominent figures and guardians of culture, and restoration of the survivors, as well as monuments, disappeared forever.

The exhibition is opened with a section “Ancient Mysteries, powerful tribes ...” where the archive for the first time demonstrates documents on the archaeological discoveries in the region, known in Russian expeditions and discoveries of scientists, which today decorate the best museums in the country. Materials from archives of the Altai Regional Branch of the Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, Altai universities, private foundations of scholars are presented.

The section "What a wonder the Altai Russia is!" includes materials on the interpenetration and mutual enrichment of the indigenous culture and the Russian old. These are notes of missionaries of Altai Spiritual Mission, painting and registers of peasant-dissenters of the XVIII century, documents about the "legendary Belovodie", rare photographs by G.I. Gurkin and his drawings, the work of contemporary Altai artists whose works were inspired by Russian and Altai national motifs.

The exhibition features over 300 documents: photographs of masterpieces of wooden architecture, plans and drawings of the reconstruction of historical and cultural heritage, paintings, and works by famous artists of Altai Y. Kabanov, V. Tumanov, A. Vagin, and G. Belyshev.
