To the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty: “The Imperial Gardens of Russia International Festival” in Saint-Petersburg
From 7 to 16 June 2013 the State Russian Museum (Saint-Petersburg) holds the VI Annual International Festival “The Imperial Gardens of Russia”, as part of which is held the exhibition-competition of gardening and landscape art “Plantomania”. The International Festival “The Imperial Gardens of Russia” is held annually during the White Nights in the Mikhailovsky Garden.
The Festival 2013 is timed to a number of anniversaries and events. This is the 400th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, 155 years of Russian Imperial Horticultural Society and the 115th anniversary of the State Russian Museum.
The motto of the VI Festival sounds like “Plantomania” (from the English word plant). It is associated with the name of the Empress Catherine the Great, who was fond of gardening and under these names she translated book by Englishman Thomas Vatley “Notes on the modern gardening, illustrated by descriptions”.
The annual International Festival of landscape “The Imperial Gardens of Russia” is the solution of such problems as the revival and development of traditions of garden and architecture and landscape architecture in Russia, the development of the tourist landscape areas, the creation of favorable environmental and aesthetic environment in the heart of Europe’s largest metropolis.
