History of Russia abroad: The exhibition “Peoples of Russia” in Copenhagen

17 July 2013

July 17, 2013 in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Copenhagen (Denmark) opens the exhibition “Peoples of Russia”.  It is based on materials of illustrated album in French “Peoples of Russia, or Description of customs, manners and costumes of different peoples of the Russian Empire”.

The book was published in 1812-1813 in Paris by Bavarian envoy to the Russian court Karl Rechberg. The album, which is now kept in the collection of the State Pushkin Museum, was very popular. The edition “Peoples of Russia” has long been a rarity, and art critics, historians and artists still refer to it in their works.

The exhibition, which presents 96 engraved illustrations of the album, has already been to Kiev. Now it is expected in Berlin, Paris, Brussels and Washington.
