
History of Russia: Exhibition “Moscow and Muscovites. XIX century”
August 29, 2013 at the V. A. Tropinin Museum and Moscow artists of his time is opening the exhibition “Moscow and Muscovites. XIX century”.
The exhibition introduces the views of Moscow of the XIX century and portraits of people who lived in Moscow at the time. The works were created by masters such as O. A. Kiprenskiy, V. A. Tropinin, V. V. Pukirev, and V. E. Astrakhov. The exhibition also includes works by unknown artists of the XIX century and the representatives of the “Rossika” - Damon Ortolani, I.-N. Rauch, A. Durand, L. O. Premazzi, F. Kuehnel.
The exposition presents views of the capital and its environs, made in the technique of printmaking and watercolor. Thanks to them, you can see the rare image of the Alexander Garden and the constructed Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, standing in the woods, the Novodevichy Monastery in the moonlight, a flower exhibition in Manezh, the Moscow region estate of “the last master of the Moscow-lords” Prince S. M. Golitsyn - Kuzminki for a long time already included into the city boundaries. Historical and cultural value of these works is truly undeniable.
