Education and society: The project to establish International rating of BRICS Universities launched

16 August 2013

The International Information Group “Interfax” and a rating company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a leader in educational assessment, launched a project to create an international ranking of universities of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

The objective of the project is the creation of the rating, which not only answered the Berlin Principles, the key rules of any international academic rating, but also was recognized and accepted around the world. The basis of the formation of rankings comes from the criteria recommended by the leading universities of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science in autumn of 2012. These criteria were grouped into three groups: educational activities, research and international, and then categorically aggregated for most accurate collection of data from all the universities of covered countries.

Further the evaluation methodology of the universities can be added and expanded, based on the recommendations of the academic community and the “Interfax”, which has extensive experience in the creation of the Russian National University Rankings.

The results of a new international ranking of universities of the BRICS countries will be made during an international conference in Moscow in December 2013.

The methodology of forming the BRICS University Rankings is based on the following indicators: education, research and international activities.

In addition, it is planned to assess the expected collection of additional informative indicators of the universities. It is also planned to improve the quality and quantity of international expert panels.
