
Information technology and history: E-book for iPad on the role of Russia in the World War I created on the initiative of the Tsarskoye Selo Museum Reserve
An e-book for iPad on the role of Russia in the Great War, an initiative of the State Museum Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo," was one of the finalists of the “Museum Olympus 2013" contest in the category "Museum Book." There are no analogs of such publication neither in Russia, nor in the world.
The work on the book was completed this August - a year before the opening of the Museum of the Great War in the State Museum "Tsarskoye Selo".
- We are already thinking about the ways to prepare potential visitors for the perception of this complex topic, to talk about the major events of the "forgotten” war. Owing to the emergence of such a book, children and adults in a modern style will immerse into the atmosphere of the era and receive a historically verified, substantiated information on the participation and role of Russia in the First World War, said Iraida Bott, deputy director for scientific work, State Museum Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo".
Texts, captions and video subtitles have been translated into English to allow the interested foreign reader to learn about the key milestones in the history of war and to change the stereotypes about the role of Russia prevailing in the world historiography.
The book enables not only to read the text, but also to study the elements of graphic culture of the early 20th century first brought together - posters, propaganda popular print, attributes of 34 combat of arms of the Russian army; to enlarge and see in detail the uniforms of Russian and European armies of the age of the First World War; to study illustrations ( each image is supplemented with a gallery of views and portraits); to view the unique video footage accompanied by music of the age of the First World war and the voice-overs; to study 3D military equipment, maps of battles.
The book is designed in the style of authentic graphic techniques of the early 20th century. Video is mounted using mounting methods for real chronicle of the First World War. Insonification of video and audio blocks is done in the style of ballroom pianists.
Let us remind that the Museum "Tsarskoye Selo" creates the Museum "Russia in the Great War" in the premises of the Martial Chamber. Its opening will be timed to the centennial of the outbreak of the First World War, August 1, 2014.
October 29, 2013 at the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation were presented the concepts of the Museum of the First World War in the Martial Chamber of the State Museum "Tsarskoye Selo." The Ministry of Culture must declare the decisions made upon the presentations (taking into account the views of experts) no later than November 1, 2013.
