
Exhibition: XVII - XX Сenturies Portrait Miniatures are Presented in Saratov
"On the Romantic Era, the Chivalry of Times Bygone... The XVII - XX Centuries Portrait Miniatures" exhibition were opened on March 6, 2014, in Radischev Museum of Saratov.
This is the first complete portrait miniature representation based on the museum collection. The exhibition includes more than 40 works, offering you to get acquainted with the history of this genre and with its main techniques: watercolor and gouache on a parchment, a paper or a cardboard; an oil and an enamel painting on metal plates; a special paints on china.
The earliest miniatures are from Western artists of XVII century. While the twentieth century works are chronologically accomplishing the exhibition. Most of presented works the visitors will see for first time.
Since one of the possibilities of the "miniature" term’s origin associates with a name of used to create illustrations in medieval manuscripts red paint “minimum”, the volumes from the Rare Books Library Museum are also displayed.
