World history: A new exposition “Special Storeroom. Archaeology” at the State Museum of the Oriental Art

March 1, 2014 at the State Museum of the Oriental Art (Moscow) opened to the public a new exhibition "Special pantry. Archaeology".

This is a special storage, which was created based on materials found in archeological expeditions by the Oriental Museum in the North Caucasus. The exhibition features over 600 unique exhibits.

The materials collected in the "Special Storeroom" represent different peoples and cultures that existed in the North Caucasus in a wide chronological range from 5 B. C. to 14 A. D.

The exposition "Special Storeroom" is conditionally divided into four sections according to the chronology.

The first section includes materials from the 5th to 4th centuries B. C. - the heyday of the local culture of Meotian tribes created by the interaction with the Iranian-Scythian tribes and the Greek colonies of the Eastern Black Sea coast. In this section, are exposed as bronze ware of local artists and gold and silver vessels imported from Iran.

The materials of the second section are dated 3 century B. C. - 3 A. D. and communicate with the advent of the North Caucasus Sarmatian tribes. In this section of the exhibition are shown: expensive horse harness, jewelry made ​​of gold and silver with colored stone and glass inserts, a variety of imports from Asia Minor (glassware, etc.).

The third section is devoted to significant time of the historical process, known as "the Great Migration". Under this period are exhibited items from the burial of Alani warlord (5 century B. C.) made in polychromatic style of the Hun era. This is a long sword and dagger with scabbard gold plates decorated inserts carnelian; a complete set of harness.

The fourth section demonstrates the medieval culture and art of the Northwest Caucasus from the 7th to 14th centuries. Here are presented the arts and crafts of the Khazar Khanate era, materials  from the rich burials time entering these territories of the Golden Horde (weapons, belt sets toreutics), as well as details of ornaments and costume of Adygei women of late Middle Ages.
